THE MAGIC OF MIDORI – IN TUCSON, ONE NIGHT ONLY

Inspirational Musical Master MIDORI performs BRAHMS Violin Concerto with JOSÉ LUIS GOMEZ and the TUSCON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

MIDORI GOTO

This Friday evening, 2 November 2018, at 7:30 P.M., world-renowned concert violinist, dedicated educator, and global music ambassador Midori Goto will perform the Brahms Violin Concerto with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Music Director, José Luis Gomez.

Midori, who performed in Carnegie Hall with orchestra at the tender age of eleven, brings striking, penetrating musicality and dazzling technique to all repertoire she covers. Midori's riveting stage presence flows from an endless series of supple rotations, as whole body motions are applied to each note, arpeggio, double-stop, and trill. Not only by virtuosity do her performances thrill. The delicacy and power Midori draws from the 1734 Guarnerius del Gesu ex-Huberman violin she plays, belie her petite physical stature. On stage, Midori appears as a soul subsumed in the music. The spirit is dancing and the awareness is sharp and open. Her performances, of such egoless mastery, for three decades now, have mesmerized and transported audiences around the world, to a higher plane and deeper understanding of music and of themselves.

And while concertizing has comprised the core of her musical universe since childhood, Midori's creative and communicative passions have driven her to explore and embrace a vast array of artistic, educational, and humanistic endeavors. She is a champion of contemporary composers and music, founding new music performance projects in Japan and the United States. She established 'Partners in Performance' to expand the reach of classical music into urban areas, and an 'Orchestra Residencies Program' to promote diversified education and careers for young musicians. The pursuit her own education led to degrees in gender studies and psychology from New York University (BA 2000, MA 2005), which she says strongly inform her holistic teaching philosophy: “In our studio, the tenets of Honesty, Health, and Dignity guide us through the times of trial, self-doubt, self-questioning, and growth.” Combined with the global reach of her international concert career, the success of these initiatives have led to a fully integrated, high profile career as an artist and activist, and as an advocate for peace and humanity.

 * An oldie, yet spectacular goodie: at age 19,
Midori's complete Carnegie Hall recital. *

This will be the third outstanding concert violinist that Director Gomez  a concert violinist for most of his musical career  has brought to Tucson to perform with the TSO in the last six months. What a wonderful treat this will be! Midori's performance, highlighting an evening European classics, is eagerly anticipated. What part of this concert will YOU most fondly remember?

Pacho Flores DAZZLES in Tucson

Pacho Flores, Corno Music Director, José Luis Gomez Tucson Symphony Orchestra Friday night, 25 January 2019, Tucson Symphony Orchestra's 'Fresh Music, Copland and More' Classic concert: ONE: this is a brilliant program. Two brass concerti, featuring Venezuelan super-virtuoso Pacho Flores, and two popular Aaron Copeland works, were bookended by sublime overtures by Mozart and Bernstein. ONE-A: a surprising common musical thread weaves its way through Mozart's Overture to 'The Abduction from the Seraglio', the 'Concerto for Corno da Caccia', by J.B.G. Neruda (a contemporary of Bach and Mozart), and the first movement of the new Arturo Márquez 'Concerto for Trumpet' – a sustained, repeated melodic syncopation. The TSO Music Director, José Luis Gomez, is a sly one! TWO: this performance by Pacho Flores  was a soulful and energetic gift to this audience. His tone, articulations, and musicality are masterly, while his v...
